After the splash that World of Warcraft made after its release in 2004, it quickly overshadowed the game from which its storyline originated – Warcraft III.
In the years to come, Blizzard shifted their attention away from the real-time strategy genre. In 2010 they finally released a new RTS game, but it wasn’t Warcraft IV but StarCraft II and the competitive scene gravitated around the new title, leaving the old Warcraft III in the past.
That, however, changes now, as a remastered version of the iconic Warcraft III has just been announced at BlizzCon 2018. It will be released in 2019 under the title of Warcraft III: Reforged and it will be offering completely remodeled skins in 4K resolution for all heroes, units, structures and objects, as well as redone environment and updated user interface.
A World Editor tool for easy modding and Battle.net functionality for better multiplayer experience will be available with the new game. Balance changes will also follow, as a competitive RTS game with as many as four races is very difficult to fine-tune and Warcraft III has suffered a lot of criticism in this regard.
Warcraft III: Reforged is available for pre-purchase at www.playwarcraft3.com.
